Siding – Rain Screen

This was kind of a small job. Client wanted natural unfinished cedar siding. We repaired existing sheathing, added building wrap, insulation, flashing above windows and doors, various drip edges, and a second layer of building wrap with a space for water drainage. They say that all siding leaks. You can not expect that any siding will keep all rain and moisture outside so you design it so that any water infiltration is controlled and directed down and out of the building. With a “rain-screen” system the cedar has a chance to breath and dry out from the back as well as the front. It extends the life to any siding and, since it is a multi layered system, keeps water out much better than traditional systems.
